Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged
Bible verse for today (move the mouse to the reference to read the verse)
Mathew 7:1 (NIV) Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
Comment
Someone I know, recently witnessed a few believers checking transcripts of the Sunday sermon for plagiarism. Sadly, this is the world we live in today. Everyone including believers have become the judge and the jury.
Have we become like Simon the Pharisee and pass judgments on people based on what they say, or wear or their reputation? Do we favor one believer more than another based on his or her outward expressions of spirituality? Let us not forget that Jesus rebuked Simon the Pharisee for his unrighteous judgment.
Have we as Christians become exceedingly self-assured in our own uprightness that we feel so comfortable in judging others? We all know the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. Jesus said the following about the two men, in Luke 18: 14 "I tell you that this man (referring to the humble tax collector), rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."
While we are to be judicious in our thoughts and actions, we should refrain from making shallow and unforgiving judgments based on what we see and hear. We are reminded in Titus 3:2 “to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.”
Our Lord cautions us in Mathew 7:2 “For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
May we humble ourselves before God who is the judge of us all.
AMEN
